PHANZ Member Code of Conduct

Introduction: Members of the Public Health Association of New Zealand (PHANZ) play a crucial role in advancing public health and contributing to the well-being of our communities. As a community of professionals, researchers, advocates, and leaders, we hold ourselves to the highest standards of ethical conduct, respect, and collaboration. This Member Code of Conduct outlines the principles and expectations that guide our interactions and contributions within PHANZ.

1. Honouring Te Tiriti Partner:

  • Members shall uphold the principles and responsibilities of Te Tiriti in all areas of work related to PHANZ activities and contributions.

2. Professionalism and Integrity:

  • Members shall conduct themselves in a professional manner, demonstrating honesty, transparency, and ethical behaviour.

  • Members shall uphold the values of PHANZ, including a commitment to health equity, social justice, and the promotion of public health.

3. Respect for Diversity:

  • Members shall respect the diversity of backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences within PHANZ and the broader public health community.

  • Members shall foster an inclusive and welcoming environment that values the contributions of individuals from all walks of life.

4. Collaboration and Cooperation:

  • Members shall actively engage in collaborative efforts with other members, organizations, and stakeholders to advance the field of public health.

  • Members shall be open to diverse viewpoints and work constructively to find common ground and shared solutions.

5. Professional Development:

  • Members shall commit to ongoing professional development, staying informed about current public health issues, research, and best practices.

  • Members shall actively seek opportunities to enhance their skills and knowledge in the field of public health.

6. Advocacy and Policy Engagement:

  • Members are encouraged to engage in advocacy efforts that align with PHANZ's mission and values, advocating for evidence-based public health policies.

  • Members shall engage in policy discussions with respect for differing perspectives and promote informed and balanced discourse.

7. Confidentiality and Privacy:

  • Members shall respect the confidentiality and privacy of sensitive information shared within PHANZ, including discussions, documents, and member data.

  • Members shall use and share information responsibly, ensuring it aligns with PHANZ's policies and guidelines.

8. Responsible Communication:

  • Members shall engage in respectful and constructive communication, whether in written or verbal form, within PHANZ forums and activities.

  • Members shall avoid engaging in any form of harassment, discrimination, or offensive language in their interactions.

9. Compliance with PHANZ Policies:

  • Members shall familiarize themselves with and adhere to the PHANZ constitution, including policies related to membership, elections, and governance.

  • Members shall report any violations of PHANZ policies or this Code of Conduct to the appropriate authorities within the organization.

10. Commitment to Health Equity:

  • Members shall actively support and work towards achieving health equity, addressing health disparities, and advocating for the well-being of all New Zealanders.

11. Accountability: - Members are accountable for their actions and contributions to PHANZ and the field of public health. - Members shall be open to constructive feedback and, when necessary, address concerns or conflicts through appropriate channels.

 

Conclusion: By adhering to this Member Code of Conduct, PHANZ members contribute to a vibrant and ethical public health community that is committed to improving the health and well-being of all New Zealanders. Violations of this Code of Conduct may result in appropriate actions, including membership revocation, in accordance with PHANZ policies.
